Characteristics of Elastomer isolators

1. High Elasticity and Viscoelasticity: Rubber has high elasticity, enabling it to undergo elastic deformation within a wide range. Meanwhile, it also possesses viscoelasticity, which allows it to absorb and dissipate vibration energy.

2. Multi – Stiffness Characteristics: The impact stiffness of rubber is greater than its dynamic stiffness, and the dynamic stiffness is greater than its static stiffness. This characteristic is conducive to reducing impact deformation and dynamic deformation.

3. Damping Performance: The stress – strain curve of rubber is an elliptical hysteresis loop, and the area of this loop is equal to the vibration energy (damping) converted into heat in each vibration cycle. The damping performance of rubber can be adjusted through formula design.

4. Incompressibility: Rubber is an incompressible material (Poisson’s ratio is 0.5), and its volume will not change under stress.

5. Adjustable Shape and Hardness: The shape of rubber can be freely selected, and its hardness can be adjusted through formula design, which can meet the stiffness and strength requirements in different directions.

6. Durability and Stability: Elastomer isolators have good durability and can resist the erosion of oil and water and are not affected by temperature.

7. Energy Absorption and Sound Insulation Characteristics: Rubber materials can not only effectively absorb vibration energy but also significantly reduce the transmission of sound waves, thus providing better noise control.

Selection of Raw Materials for Elastomer isolators

1. Natural Rubber (NR)
Characteristics: It has excellent elasticity, good fatigue resistance, low heat generation, small creep, good adhesion performance with metal parts, and excellent cold resistance, electrical insulation, and processing performance.
Application: It is widely used for damping purposes, especially when low – temperature resistance or weather resistance is required. It can be used in combination with styrene – butadiene rubber (SBR) or neoprene (CR).

2. Styrene – Butadiene Rubber (SBR)
Characteristics: It combines rubber elasticity and relatively high rigidity, has a low cost, but its weather resistance is average, and its dynamic heat generation is relatively high.
Application: It is commonly used in tire manufacturing, conveyor belts, and low – cost shock pads.

3. Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR)
Characteristics: It has good oil resistance and chemical corrosion resistance, a relatively large loss factor, and good damping performance.
Application: It is mainly used for oil – resistant vulcanizates.

4. Neoprene (CR)
Characteristics: It has good weather resistance, ozone resistance, and chemical corrosion resistance.
Application: It is commonly used for weather – resistant vulcanizates.

5. Butyl Rubber (IIR)
Characteristics: It has high damping performance and good heat resistance and cold resistance.
Application: It is used for high – damping vulcanizates.

6. Ethylene – Propylene Rubber (EPR)
Characteristics: It has excellent weather resistance, ozone aging resistance, electrical insulation, heat resistance, and cold resistance.
Application: In recent years, it has received wide attention and can be used for heat – resistant vulcanizates.

7. Silicone Rubber
Characteristics: It has good high – temperature performance and also decent damping performance.
Application: It is suitable for dampers in high – temperature environments.

Factors to Consider When Selecting Raw Materials
1. Usage Environment: Select appropriate rubber materials according to environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and the degree of chemical corrosion.
2. Load Requirements: Select suitable rubber types and hardness according to the actual load capacity, load direction, and frequency.
3. Cost: There are relatively large cost differences among different rubber materials. Select suitable materials according to the budget.
4. Processing Performance: Select rubber materials that are easy to process and mold to reduce production costs and improve production efficiency.
